The Northern Kane County Chamber of Commerce represents the Village of Sleepy Hollow.
COMMUNITY OVERVIEW
The Village of Sleepy Hollow began as a planned community and is designed to be more hospitable than the typical suburb. A community garden project helps residents gather their own locally grown vegetables, and the Giving Garden supports area food pantries. While typically a bedroom community, a number of businesses launched in the village. Randy’s Vegetable Farm Stand sells flowers and produce during the warmer months. Retails stores include Advance Auto Parts and Verlo Mattress.

2021 Message from the Village President: (Do we need this)?
As we depart one long, dark and cold February the process of spring returns. Fiscal year ’21 budget was approved; the fiscal year ’20 audit
has been completed and will be available soon on the Village website for review. The process for determining the fiscal year ’22 budget
began this past month. Finish one up, work within one and plan for the future. While many of the dire predictions of loss of revenue have not
materialized it has been a decrease in expenditures by Village staff that puts the Village in a comfortable place for the moment. What will
tomorrow bring?
After spending $268K for drainage this past year and saving some $300K for next summer’s repaving of Sleepy Hollow Road, the
Villages’ Capital Improvement Fund will be depleted. This was the driving reason that the Trustees decided to place the question of
raising the Villages portion of the property tax bill on the ballot for the upcoming April 6th Consolidated Elections. Watch for more information
concerning this referendum to be posted on the Village website in the near future. You can always call a Trustee and learn more of why this
referendum has been proposed.
Another dilemma that came before the Village recently was the notice from our sewage transmission provider, West Dundee, that the Village will be required to make annual contributions towards the capital improvements of the sewage treatment provider starting with the coming FY ’22 budget.
This demand has led to an intensive audit of the existing sanitary users and will be conducted jointly between West Dundee and Sleepy Hollow.
To ensure that as much accurate data as possible can be assembled the inventory process will include a physical inspection of all exiting connections. Residents that are affected by this review will receive a letter from Sleepy Hollow/West Dundee and the employees doing the inspections will have proper ID.
Other news from this past winter was the resignation of Chief Michael Rivas just before the New Year. While Chief Rivas’ tenure with the Village
was short, he did have impact. We wish him well with his future endeavors.
Stay safe, Stay well.
Peace, SKP
